KUALA LUMPUR, 17 May 2023: – Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd (Rapid Bus), the operator of Rapid KL bus services in the Klang Valley, will launch a proof of concept (POC) for an on-demand shuttle bus service for route T789 (LRT Universiti – Universiti Malaya via Pantai Hillpark), which will operate from May 15, 2023 to August 14, 2023.
This POC is a collaboration between Rapid Bus and Asia Mobility Technologies Sdn Bhd (“Asia Mobiliti”), the owner of Trek Rides, a Malaysian-based Demand-Responsive Transit (DRT) service provider. This strategic collaboration is Rapid Bus’ initiative to provide a more comprehensive first-last mile connectivity to Rapid KL bus service users.
“The implementation of this POC is to optimise the resources we have in providing the best bus service. For example, the POC for route T757 (LRT Alam Megah – Shah Alam) that was launched earlier has proven successful and well-received by passengers. Now, we have replaced the use of a bus with a van for this route,” said Muhammad Yazurin Sallij, Chief Executive Officer of Rapid Bus. “With such a service, we can move according to demand while saving existing resources,” he added.
Yazurin also noted that “the bus assigned to this route can operate on other routes with higher demand.”
This service offers rides that can be booked through the Trek app. With a fare of RM1.00, passengers can easily pay using My50 Unlimited Travel Pass, Touch n’ Go Card, MyRapid Concession Card, Group Pass, and MyCity Pass.
“We are delighted to collaborate with Rapid Bus to introduce this service to Rapid KL users,” said Ramachandran Muniandy, CEO and Co-founder of Asia Mobiliti. “Our goal is to provide convenient and reliable services to meet the needs of urban residents through this DRT service,” he added.
This on-demand shuttle bus service operates daily from 6.00 am to 11.30 pm. The service also offers shorter travel times and passengers can plan their journey more efficiently as they can easily choose their booking time.
DRT is a new form of public transit service powered by software, providing a digital experience for passengers and drivers. The system responds to multiple bookings within a predefined zone or route and optimises the dispatching of vehicles through the use of intelligent algorithms that factors in waiting time, travel time and traffic conditions.
The advanced dispatching and routing capabilities enables shared-rides services without compromising on estimated time of pick-up and drop-off, bringing unparalleled journey planning reliability for public transport users.
